Factory Data Platform
A modern factory doesn't run on one layer. Five layers — from sensors on the line up to ERP in the cloud — have to share data for any of them to be useful. This page explains what each layer does and how they connect.
ISA-95 Pyramid
Based on the ISA-95 standard — the same framework factories worldwide use to organise plant-floor technology.
Level 4
Business system + central data lake
ERP runs inventory, finance, sales, HR. The Data Platform stores data from every layer in a lake — feeding BI dashboards, predictive maintenance, and AI analytics.
Platforms
SAP, Odoo, Oracle, MS Dynamics, Power BI, Snowflake, AWS / Azure Data Lake
Level 3
The bridge between shop floor and ERP
MES handles work orders, recipes, batch tracking, OEE, downtime, traceability — translating ERP commands into real production jobs, then reporting results back upstream.
Platforms
FactoryTalk ProductionCentre, Tulip, Critical Manufacturing, custom-built MES
Level 2
Operator screens + line-wide monitoring
SCADA aggregates data from many PLCs into dashboards. Operators see the full line, trigger alarms, run start/stop, and the historian database records every signal for later analysis.
Software
Ignition, Wonderware, Citect, WinCC, Grafana + InfluxDB
Level 1
The real-time brain that drives the machines
PLCs read sensor data, execute the logic you've programmed, and command actuators on millisecond cycles. Without this layer, the machines simply don't run.
Vendors
Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Safety PLCs
Level 0
The machines and devices doing the actual work
The bottom layer. Sensors read temperature, pressure, distance, light, colour, etc. and send signals upward. Actuators receive commands and move valves, motors, conveyors.
Devices
Sensors, Actuators, Motors, Valves, IO Modules, Encoders
Why connected matters
Most Thai factories already have PLCs, SCADA, or an ERP — but each runs on its own and data doesn't cross layers. The result: data silos, slow decisions, and duplicated cost.
01
One set of numbers, used from the line all the way to the boardroom — no reconciling reports by hand.
02
See OEE, downtime, defects, throughput right now — not at month-end.
03
Track any lot back from sensor to ERP record — exactly what tier-1 customers and FDA auditors expect.
04
Predictive maintenance, AI quality, root-cause analysis — all possible only when every layer's data is connected.
How layers talk
Each layer uses a different set of protocols. The system integrator's job is to pick the right protocol per hop and make every layer talk smoothly.
Protocols
4-20mA, 0-10V, Modbus RTU, Profibus, IO-Link, EtherCAT
Protocols
Modbus TCP, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, S7, MQTT
Protocols
SQL / Stored Procedure, REST API, MQTT, OPC UA, ISA-95 B2MML
Protocols
REST API, OData, EDI, GraphQL, Kafka, Webhook
